Building Our BI Capabilities – Welcome Marte and Wiktoria

Ports are handling increasing volumes of data. Over the past two decades, operations have shifted from manual processes and post-event reporting to real-time data collection, automation, and predictive analysis. With this shift, the need for better data visibility and operational insights has grown.

To strengthen our Business Intelligence (BI) efforts, we welcome Marte Tuseth and Wiktoria Ekwińska, who will lead the BI production to help ports make better use of their data.

New Team Members Leading Our BI Work

Marte joins us with experience in BI, supply chain, and data analytics from larger organisations like Elkem and SLB. As Project Manager and Product Manager, she will focus on developing Grieg Connects BI product to align with customer needs and ensure we provide relevant insights for port operations.

I am passionate about data and how correct data and efficient data flows can improve the decisions we make today and for the future. I’m excited to be a part of the BI team at Grieg Connect, where we will make the data created while using our systems more accessible to our customers. Data often has little impact if it is hard to access, but great impact if it is visualised and accessible

Wiktoria is responsible for the technical aspects of BI, including scalability, data integrity, and system integration. She is working on improving data models, analytics, and system performance to make BI a practical tool for ports of all sizes. With an academic background in computer science and data analytics, and experience as a data science analyst, she specializes in data cleaning, analytics, data visualization, and machine learning.

The first two months at Grieg Connect have been an exciting and enriching experience. I’ve gained valuable insights into the company’s operations, thanks to the support and guidance of my colleagues. I’m especially excited to be a part of further development of BI at Grieg Connect as I see great potential in its impact and growth. I look forward to evolving and contributing to Grieg Connect’s future.

Why Ports Need Business Intelligence

Ports are complex environments where multiple processes run in parallel. Without structured data and clear reporting, it can be difficult to track performance, efficiency, and profitability. Business Intelligence helps ports answer key questions such as:

Strategic Planning

  • Where does most of our revenue come from?
  • Which clients, cargo types, or services are the most profitable?
  • How do revenue streams develop over time?

Operational Performance

  • How efficiently are machines and resources being used?
  • Which equipment has the most downtime or maintenance issues?
  • How do cargo operations compare to planned schedules?

Financial Control

  • What are the contribution margins per cargo type or customer?
  • How do operational costs compare across different activities?
  • Where are the bottlenecks affecting efficiency and costs?

Process Optimisation

  • How are port operations proceeding in real time?
  • What are the average turnaround times for vessels and cargo?
  • Can we reduce downtime and improve resource use?

By combining financial, operational, and strategic data, BI supports better decision-making across all levels of port operations.

Why Grieg Connect?

Grieg Connect is in a strong position to deliver relevant and cost-effective BI solutions because:

  • A large share of port data is already in our systems. Since many customers use Grieg Connect’s Port Management Information System (PMIS), we can extract and structure large amounts of data without additional system complexity.
  • We understand ports. With over 20 years of experience, we know what insights matter most and how to build BI solutions that deliver practical value.
  • We create scalable models. By developing standardised BI solutions used across multiple ports, we reduce costs while ensuring continuous improvements.
  • We take care of the whole BI process starting from collecting relevant data, transforming it, modelling and finally visualising, so that our customers can use these insights to drive their strategy.

We look forward to working with Marte and Wiktoria – welcome to the team!
