“We wanted a system that could support more efficient processes, provide better traceability, and ensure high-quality data across our daily work,” says Hanus Mikkelsen, CEO, Port of Tórshavn. “Going digital helps us make better decisions and offer a more professional service to our users.”
The new setup includes Port Call Management with mobile support, a Power BI-based data warehouse for port calls, income and cargo as well as invoicing integration with Navision. Robust terrestrial live AIS data is provided by MRCC and visualised in the PMIS, supporting real-time planning and automating the collection of vessel arrival and departure times. The port’s infrastructure has also been fully digitised and is now available within the system — streamlining both operations and reporting.
Sustainability, Built In
Environmental performance is also built into the system. Tórshavn will now automatically calculate in-port environmental discounts for vessels using the Environmental Port Index (EPI), a scheme pioneered in Bergen and used by over 50 ports across the Nordics. The solution allows the port to promote greener port calls in a transparent and scalable way.
The port also has the option to activate a Port Community module at a later stage, which would enable agents and shipping lines to submit berth and service requests, as well as cargo notifications, digitally — further reducing friction and improving data flow across the port ecosystem.
“It’s been a pleasure working with the team in Tórshavn. They’ve been engaged from day one, and we’re proud to see the port now operating with a solid digital foundation,” says Espen Ranvik, CEO of Grieg Connect.
Part of a Growing Digital Port Network
With this go-live, the Port of Tórshavn joins more than 85 Nordic ports using Grieg Connect’s cloud-based PMIS to streamline operations and support better decision-making.
We’re pleased to welcome Tórshavn into the fold and look forward to the road ahead.
