Better control and more flexibility
Port of Harstad covers a large area with varying levels of activity, which makes consistent ISPS compliance demanding. Each area has an ISPS on/off status, which puts extra pressure on oversight and flexibility.
With Port Security, we’ll have better tools to plan ISPS activities, track movements, and manage access, cards, and permits – both for us and the businesses using the port, says Jonas Elverhøy, Maritime Operations Manager at Port of Harstad.
The system is developed in Norway by Grieg Connect as part of their cloud-based Port platform. It supports ISPS inspections with deviation reports, map-based zoning, and automated invoicing.
A built-in info module lets the port easily notify users about safety drills, construction, closed areas, or changes in the security level.
Companies operating in the port get access to a secure web portal where they can manage their own users, vehicles, and access rights. Ships visiting the port can do the same for temporary access – for crew or suppliers – directly in the portal.
Stronger control, stronger compliance
When someone applies for a temporary visit, a designated receiver from the company or vessel must approve the request and take responsibility for escorting the visitor. This ensures no one enters ISPS areas without a clear responsible party.
This gives us better control of our data, improves security, and puts us in a stronger position ahead of upcoming regulations like NIS2. Ports are part of society’s critical infrastructure. That comes with responsibility” says Port Director Anne-Britt Bekken
The Port Security rollout is scheduled for the second half of 2025 and is planned to go live around the end of the year.
