Oxelösunds Hamn is currently undergoing rapid development driven by SSAB Oxelösund’s green transformation of its steel production, which significantly affects the port’s logistics processes.
To meet these changing demands, the port has invested in a new cloud-based port management system. The solution improves efficiency through automation, enables mobile data sharing and collaboration, and provides real-time insights for better decision-making. The system is flexible, scalable, and designed to meet future customer needs and new business opportunities.
“With the new digital port system, we’ve streamlined our daily workflows and gained better control of vessel planning. It’s now easier to manage port calls, warehouse rentals, and invoicing, and we’re seeing a much higher degree of automation that will simplify day-to-day operations,” says Daniel Meyer, project manager for the system implementation.
Digital Port calls
In spring 2025, Port of Oxelösund successfully implemented Port, the port management system from Grieg Connect, marking a key milestone in the port’s strategy to increase internal efficiency and enable better collaboration and data sharing with customers and partners.
In addition to the port call process, the port’s rental operations have been digitalised using Grieg Rent and the Port Asset GIS module. By linking port calls, projects, and rental contracts to port infrastructure, the port now has a visual overview of future occupancy—both in gantt views and on the map—enabling more efficient planning and stronger commercial decisions.
The solution is integrated with SafeSeaNet (SSN) to receive vessel call data, and with the Swedish Maritime Administration’s pilot scheduling system, ensuring a complete picture of each call, including coordination with all involved actors.
The system also integrates with the port’s financial platform and delivers data to the port’s data warehouse via API for reporting and analysis. Vessel berthing is visualised in synchronised gantt timelines and map views, where infrastructure layers and live vessel traffic are shown together.
Port Community and Collaboration
The solution includes a Port Community module that allows agents and terminal operators to collaborate with the port on a shared platform—for example, to book berths and request services. The module also includes built-in chat functionality and notifications when updates or changes are made. The goal is to drastically reduce phone calls and email traffic while improving real-time collaboration and decision-making.
Future opportunities
Port of Oxelösund will have the option to expand the system with a dedicated module for workforce and equipment planning, based on demand from vessel calls or terminal operations. This includes reporting of completed work, invoicing support, internal cost allocation, and relevant KPIs. This provides the flexibility to continue developing and adapting the system in line with future operational needs and technological advancements.
