PORT OF DRAMMEN DIGITALISES PORT OPERATIONS WITH GRIEG CONNECT

In April, Port of Drammen implemented Grieg Connect’s cloud-based port management system, PORT – a key step in its efforts to digitalize and streamline port operations. The new system provides the port with strong oversight and control of vessel calls, rentals, cargo, and invoicing, supporting its strategic goal of becoming a sustainable and technology-driven port.

“We envision increased efficiency by managing all activities in one system. From day one, PORT GO has elevated us from older work order routines to a more modern order processing approach. Strong enthusiasm within our team made it possible to get up and running quickly. We look forward to exploring more possibilities with PORT,” says Morten Hansen, Port Inspector at Port of Drammen.

Efficient and Future-Oriented Port Operations

Port of Drammen now uses several key modules from Grieg Connect’s solution, including port call management with geofencing and AIS tracking, cargo registration via the Port Community portal, a rental module for managing buildings and outdoor spaces, and mobile support for operational services. The port has also gained access to a data warehouse for vessel calls, revenue, and cargo, providing improved insight and a solid foundation for analysis and reporting.

The system is integrated with SafeSeaNet (SSN) to receive vessel call information from national authorities. Additionally, integration has been established with the local terminal operator’s TOS system, allowing cargo information to be automatically transferred to the port system. Invoicing is handled via Visma Global.

This solution replaces a legacy port system, which has now been fully phased out.

“The project moved quickly from initiation to production, thanks to a solid structure and clear project leadership from the port. They knew what they needed and had their processes well in place. That made the implementation both efficient and focused,” says Morten Berntsen, Head of Projects at Grieg Connect.

A Sustainable Port in Growth

Port of Drammen is Norway’s largest import port for vehicles, with over 116,500 cars imported in 2024 – a 10 percent increase from the previous year. The port aims to become emission-free by 2030 and is actively working on initiatives such as shore power, equipment electrification, and digitalisation to reduce its environmental footprint.

“Digitalisation is a key step towards becoming a more efficient and sustainable port. It gives us a strong foundation for working smarter, making better decisions, and developing in line with our ambition of becoming an emission-free port by 2030,” says Arne Fosen, Port Director at Port of Drammen.

Part of a Digital Port Network

With this transition, the port becomes part of a network of over 85 Nordic ports using Grieg Connect’s port system to streamline operations and ensure better data quality in port management.
